Abstract:

In January 2024, the Limestone District School Board (LDSB) in partnership with Queen’s University Faculty of Education hosted Neuro-Vibes: A Night Exploring Neurodiversity. This event brought together educators, students, administrators, researchers, and community members to promote neuro-affirming approaches in schools. Grounded in the neurodiversity paradigm, the event emphasized inclusive planning, community collaboration, and the importance of shifting from deficit-based models to affirming and strength-based practices in education. Highlights of the event included a panel discussion with neurodivergent individuals, research insights from Dr. Patty Douglas, and a practical information session showcasing neuro-affirming strategies from Ash Ward and Jessi Lalonde from LDSB. Key takeaways from the event included the need for accessible learning environments, educator training, and student-centered approaches that celebrate neurodivergent strengths. The overwhelmingly positive response has inspired plans for Neuro-Vibes 2025, with a commitment to expanding accessibility and representation
